Title: Russian Circles
Post by: IKOH2OH on September 12, 2006, 12:37:06 am
It a newer issue of a Guitar Mag.

The guitarist for the band "Russian Circles", listed a reissue Model-T as his main amp.

I know some purists will scoff.

But, it still says SUNN.

All Hail the glorious bringer of sonic life and light.

My Fender Sunns sound amazing. I actually prefer them to the Model T's of old.

At least the SUNN name is getting out there :-D.

People will see it and start to wonder.

Then come to the same place we all have.

To bask in the warmth of the SUNN.

Sidenote:  While at the East Troy, WI.  OZZFEST.
I checked out the  Dimebag tribute guitar display, and talked to a member of the band Hillbilly Orchestra (Ace dude BTW,) whom was manning the feature.  We started talking about gear, when I mentioned SUNN amps, he replied "their awesome."

The Bands add is www.hboband.com.

Reissue Model T's, but nonetheless a pretty brutal set up.  Gotta love the emperor cabinets.

Probably one of the heaviest setups I have ever had to move around!
back when Colin was in the band they had like 5-6 cabs to carry and it was insane.
I love those guys and will support then no matter what. Great tone, great sound, over all great band.

Yeah, Emperor cabinets are pretty nice. They're thick and heavy like Orange cabinets, which I also happen to love.

About how much do Emperor Cabs go for? I've heard they are reasonable but I have never really seen numbers.

Was thinking of sending a form for a quote for a vertical 2x12 to use as an extension for my Solarus... hmmmm

And Russian Circles have got to be one of my favorite bands now, their songs can be re-listened to countless times only to unfold more than what you thought was already there. Incredible band, and they are amaaazing live (saw them support Pelican a few years ago!)

Honestly I love the Emperor cabs BUT for me personally they are too expensive. Great tone but for me its either Sunn, Avatar, or Emperor.

Good to know, I've heard some decent things about avatar cabs too. Will have to look into those.

You might know: how is Mike running his amps, with the chained together model T's. Is one specifically for clean and one for overdive or are they just teamed up to produce more power? I've wondered about that and when I saw them live he would click on a little fender style amp switch every so often but I couldn't tell what it was for exactly.

haha ya he has a weird thing going on there.
He runs like 3-4 different cabs and so I think that might be one reason for the 2 Model T's. BUT I do know that one is for clean and one is for basically an overdrive on his overdrive.

clean (from the sunn)

distorted tone (clean channel on sunn w/ fulltone)

Heavier distorted tone (sunn dirty)

Even heavier distorted tone ( sunn dirty w/ fulltone)

the guitar player for my band just had an emperor cab made with celestions and it was only like $800. have fun paying $1000 for an orange! not to mention you choose the speakers, stain, and the grill! fully customizable, and made by hand by a few dudes right here in the midwest! and the guys are great too! we went to pick it up and the dude gave us a "tour" of the "factory" which is basically just a huge underground lair in chicago filled with epic vintage music gear haha. not to mention they give you price breaks for being a return customer and for multiple cab orders. well worth the investment!

That's pretty awesome. Those cabs do look really solid and powerful. I have plenty of time to make up my mind though, still have to get my amp serviced.

Justinmilwaukee, what's the name of your band? I was just visiting a friend in milwaukee not long ago... I used to live in Madison area, but am now in MN. Seems like most people either love WI (or the midwest in general) or they hate it, it will always be home to me!
