-- because you are the man, i bring this to your attention:

my sunn beta lead makes "crackeling noises", noticable durring cleaner parts in songs... if i hit the damn thing on top, it sounds ok for a few seconds until i start playing again (i used to see joe preston do this when his made weird noises when he played in the band, the whip). if i move my guitar cable from input to input or jiggle the cable, the sound changes and comes and goes...

-- question #1: do you know what is wrong?

-- question #2: does anyone fix sunn amps in seattle or in the NW?

I get the same thing on my Coliseum 300 so I took it to my local music center and they'll treat me right.  Your milage may vary on your music stores, but mine here in Iowa have never been anything but awesome to me and my band mates on equipment repairs and mods.

You may have bad/dirty inputs or pots.  You also may want to have your capacitors looked at.

You can look at those yourself and if they are bulging they need fixed ASAP

I was in Metropolis and saw the SUNN logo shining in the night sky--I couldn't tell if it was a new code to call Batman to the scene but figured I'd best stop by.  

As always, I recommend taking any new / used amp to a qualified repair guy before using it. After a SUNN tube amp has gone through surgery, it's quite capable of moving small mountains.

there are loads of techs here in Seattle, I have found. Trading Musician has drop off service. Guitarville, Bass Northwest will know somebody, Solder Haus, etc. I've had T. Warren of VINTAGE TUBE AMP SERVICE work on some tube stuff for me, a very capable and knowledgeable tech.

Loads of options for you.

Hitting your amp on top is not one of them. HA HA hAH...

I would think that there would be more than a few competent techs in Jimi Hendrix' home town.
