Parts for Early 70's Concert Lead
« on: September 16, 2010, 12:14:31 pm »
Just scored a Concert Lead for $237 shipped, but  it needs a little bit of TLC. I need a transistor cover, a handle end cover, and a two screw chrome corner. Where could I get these? And based upon the picture attached, how would I go about cleaning the rust off the front panel?

Will do, thanks!

...

Well no dice on the corners, handle cover or the transistor cover.

Any ideas on how to clean the rust?

you might have to buy a whole new handle because i've never seen just the cover.

Okay - American Handle Co http://www.americanhandle.com/ has all the hardware for your amp - screws and finish washers are available from your local hardware store.

Good luck getting that rust off the front panel - I'd try something like CLR??

what does the inside of the amp look like - wet basement storage really messes things up.

Inside of the amp is good. Guy has been using it for a while and kept good care of the components of the amp. The exterior wasn't really in any better condition when he bought it.

Ordering the handle and missing corner soon. Need feet for the amp (forgot to mention) and a cover for one of the transistors.

Hi, I'm no Sunn expert, but I do clean up a lot of amps to sell them. I just got through spending a couple hours on a Sunn Concert Bass last night, which is pretty much the same enclosure. Mine didn't have the front panel rust, but all the corners/protector pieces were heavily rusted. When they're that far gone, no rubbing compound that I know of will clean them up. I hesitantly took out my hand held electric sander and used some 150 grit. Actually nicely surprised. It took off the thick outer layer of rust and if done carefully didn't even leave scratch marks, really made a difference.

Take some soap and water to the tolex, then when it dries spray it with WD-40 and rub it in. Good luck. Oh, here's a picture of how mine came out (I shoulda taken a before shot too) PS: I'll be selling this most likely soon if anyone's interested:

I might be interested, but you probably want what it's worth, and I'm a cheap bastage!
