Unfortunately, the current value of the 1st Gen is sitting at about 14-1600. Maybe you'll get lucky, but you're going to have to wait a while and hope the value drops.  Don't stop checking around at pawn shops and garage sales, though.

yeahhh the pawn shops around here aren't too great... The thing to do around here is play in a metal core band and use 5150 amps or Mesa amps... so that's pretty much all I can find at the pawn shops... Well, if that's the value, and the only value I'll find it at, guess I'm gonna have to go for it.

Funny story... I was on another forum (stonerrock.com) and saw a guy inquiring about a Sound City 120L amp (which I owned at the time along with a Marshall 1960A cab from the 80's), I replied and stated They're great amps and I owned one, but wouldn't consider selling it or trading it unless I could get a Model T out of the deal (which is basically the cream of the crop to me). Another guy replied shortly after stating he was actually looking for a Sound City amp to trade for his 75 Sunn model T and 412L cab. We talked a bit, got a plan going, drove out to LA with my SC and Marshall cab, tried each other's gear out, and did the trade

You may already be aware, but there's an excellent 1st Gen on Ebay at the moment. Last I checked, it was creeping up around the $1200 mark, which is a relatively good price, but there's still plenty of time left on the auction, so I'm thinking it may go significantly higher.

Ya never know though. Worth a look.

Apparently it's not; someone paid it!  Personal opinions don’t set market value, cash transactions do. Albeit the winner has zero feedback and often they don't pay up, but you never know. Three people who would pay up chased it over $2K though, that's a good sign IMO.
I would love to see 4 output tube Model T's and 1000 series amps bringing $2K, and 2 tubers bringing $750-$850 on a consistent basis.

The vintage Sunn market sporadically shows signs of climbing up to where it should be relative to other vintage gear, but then they seem to slip back. Regretfully Sunn has garnered a reputation for "niche noise" rather than "mainstream music" and it seems that the real players with real money don't pursue them like they do vintage Fender, Hiwatt, Ampeg, Marshall, etc.
Pretty sad in my book, it’s like this “guilt by association” keeps the market value repressed. It’s my opinion that tonally old Sunns are as good as any “vintage” gear; decidedly superior for bass guitar than most others.
I guess I'll have to keep buying and hope for the best.  :-D

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for you. I recently scored one for $800. It needed a cap job and a few minor repairs, but the total cost of the amp after all of that was still just over $1000. Good deals are still out there.
