Identify this Sunn Mixer?
« on: October 18, 2008, 12:53:12 pm »
It says "Sunn Coliseum Audio Controller," no other model number.

A huge monster console 30" wide and 14" high at the back.

8 channels into mono. Each channel has an analog vu meter, monitor send (switchable pre/post), an effect send, (switchable effects/reverb), an input attenuator switch, and a vu boost switch.

patch bay on the back has individual preamp outs and effects ins for each channel.

Both main and monitor output channels have built-in graphic equalizers, limiters, and 2-way electronic crossovers.

What was this thing? A prototype? A very limited or custom production run? Appreciate any tips on the nature and history of this beast.

What is have is simply a Sunn Coliseum Audio Controller. It was top of the line back in the early 70's. Probably not many of them made, they were quite expensive.

There is a cool picture of The Who using two Coliseum Controllers to mix the monitors from the side of the stage. Scrool down to where is says August 1972 about half way down. In those days The Who were known as the loudest band on Earth!
