Title: 1975-ish 215 SH Cab
Post by: bigobassman on January 21, 2014, 08:49:45 pm
This cab is on CL and Ebay.  Not terribly far from me.  Doesn't have original speakers, but I've still got the 2 JBL D140F's that I was going to put in the 215 side vented cab deal that fell through last week.  Speaker access is from the side.

Jack plate has Sunn transducer 158B.
215 SH - 4 ohms.
160 watts RMS

I base my 1975-ish date from consulting the catalogue section.  Other than the measurements being a little different than what he says, pretty much described.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions.   Thanks!

IIRC, the 215SH was the 2x15" version of the folded horn cabinet. JBL D140's should be a good fit for the cabinet, though not necessarily the best cabinet for them. I think they're best in a vented direct radiator cabinet, but, as I said, they have good characteristics for loading into a folded horn: low Fs, low Qt.

Thanks Isaac.  I have another possibility.  I have a couple of newer Peavey 1502DT Black Widows that are pretty stout, although I've never used them in a folded horn type cab. Due to seller being out of town next week, it'll be a week from Monday before we can get together.  In the mean time, any other speaker thoughts?

As I recall, the Black Widows are also low Q, low Fs drivers. Should be fine.
