KTL13 Can Capacitor for my Solarus
« on: February 08, 2010, 12:30:42 pm »
Hey guys,

did some searching around on the forum and found a few recommendations for the KTL13 capacitor from http://www.die-wuestens.de/eindex.htm

im planning on ordering one. just wanted to find out first if anyone from the forum has used one. all the specs seem to match up fine, along with improved voltage rating. anything i should know before i order it?

Nobody? I know Edbass mentioned that he was thinking of ordering one.

I would just go with the SDS board, but the tremolo board in the Solarus takes up the space that the SDS piece would occupy.

Any suggestions? Anyone? Bueller?

Sometimes it takes a bit for a reply around here, but I'm willing to bet that Mel will chime in anytime here soon.

And I'm still thinking about ordering one!
I'd contact Oli and see what it would take to get one here (assuming you are in the US Jagermonster).

I contacted the gentleman that runs the site, Jan, and he said they're in stock and ready to go out as soon as I order one. Still trying to decide if I should go with the KTL13 or figure some fancy way to mount the SDS board.

How much delivered? My Oli suggestion was to maybe help get around duties, etc. when just trying to get one for evaluation.
I think the new can cap would be a lot easier, but if the desired end results are more headroom/power the SDS board would work better. If it were a bass application, I would think the SDS board would have even more advantages than for a guitar application.
But, it's what sounds good to your ears that matters!

Of course you could be civic minded and get the KTL13 just to let us all know how it works!

39.60 Euro shipped is the price Jan quoted me, so around $55.

Pretty reasonable, I feel.

I think I'll just end up ordering it unless one of you can suggest some kind of super-custom-mojo-badass way to get the SDS board into/onto a Solarus.

Finally, FINALLY, got around to ordering this part. I'll update when I get it and after I get the Solarus back. Fingers crossed.

Sorry, I dropped the ball on this thread. I have one in a split chassis, put it in about 6 mos. ago, works great. A lot easier than the SDS board, and so far the KTL13 is performing just fine.

Seems I never updated my own post!

Just wanted to let everyone know a couple things:

1) Jan is awesome. Really fast shipping and reasonable shipping costs.
2) The can cap fits great and resulted in a noticeable improvement over the old piece. Couldn't be happier.

Definitely a viable, high quality replacement part for those of us who can't fit the SDS board. Additionally, the shop I took it to said he was familiar with these caps and that every one he had seen/installed were top notch.

Looks like the same can cap; betcha it's just a relabeled German KTL13. Where is the Dynakit made?

No idea where the Dynakit can was made, but you are probably right about it being the same German can. I noticed on the German site they said they would custom label can orders of 100 pieces or more.
And they do look exactly alike.

Hi, sorry, I was not online for a couple of days. The cabs from Jan are great, I run my 350B with it. I changed it over two years ago, no problems so far (I use the Amp twice a week for app. 3 hours).
If someone needs a quick responds, please send me a Mail: Sunn1972@gmx.de

...by the way, Ed, are you selling the T Shirts again? I like my old ones a lot - and because of (hopefully) loosing some weight ;-), I would be happy about two new one...

Greetings

Oli
