Bass Distortion Pedal
« on: June 10, 2010, 09:22:01 pm »
Anyone have any suggestions for a good bass distortion? Something similar to a Concert Leads distortion? Distort + Boost, something when the gain is rolled back it will sound like just the boost and when cranked it will sound like Distort + Boost? Get what I'm saying?

"But wait, Walt-Dogg, you have a Concert Lead"

Yeah well I use the Lead for guitar when my bass player using my Concert Bass. And we want the same crunch that a Concert Lead gives when used as a bass head.

Hi there,I really like the Fulltone Bass Drive, haven't used the newer one with the mosfet option, but I found it easy to dial up a lot of really usable distortions, with both a 4 and 5 string bass,Mel.

Looked it up. I might already be sold. Gotta check it out the next time I get a chance to see it for myself. I would like something a little more compact though. But I guess the sound comes with the size? Haha...

Hi,

I like the xotic Bass BB Preamp (see www.xoticeffects.com), you should give it a try. You can use it as a booster and overdrive to distortion. I use it for app. half a year and it works great.

Maybe a Tech21 VT Bass pedal? I used one the other day, and you can get it to sound pretty close to the amp your using, then engage it for a boost. It also has the drive knob, which can get some pretty ridiculous disto+fuzz tones.

Personally, for bass, I just use a Fuzz Face

Looked into it. Couldn't find a good demo video all Jazz Basses and super high levels of distortion, that's the problem with this, just gotta go out and test it all myself bring my bass and my head to a Guitar Center or a Sam Ash and hopefully they have the pedals I wanna check out.

I've said it before but the EHX Bass Big Muff is amazing with my Sonaro bass head.

I don't know if it would be similar for bass but in the bass boost mode with the tone roll-back at 11:00, I get just the growl with not much fizzy fuzz, sounds more like an overdrive even with the sustain at max and you still have the blend mode to mix your clean and the dirtier side and can also feed 2 amps...

and with the LPB-1 in front, you get the boost+distorsion...

sounds to me like you could use a Tech 21 VT Bass Pedal and Electro-Harmonix LPB-1. You could probably get by with the VT Bass Alone even but the LPB-1 is like $20 and can be used, quite effectively I might add as a boost pedal.

Messing with my Concert Bass today I managed to get a somewhat decent growl out of it, but I REALLY need to take it in and get what ever the heck is wrong with it fixed.

A pedal will be in order though soon enough.

Well my tech said some caps are going bad, but I don't think that's what's making it do what it's doing. Somethings wrong with the transistors, they aren't matched I believe.
