1969 Sunn 2000s for trade. (SOLD)
« on: February 20, 2010, 01:15:04 pm »
Hi y'all.

I have this 1969 Sunn 2000s that just isn't getting the playing time it deserves.  I never thought I would get rid of this, but I am a guitarist and not really interested in using a bunch of pedals...  Tried a few with it and really just prefer my Matamp.

Interested in trades (+cash, depending) for something that is a little more of a stand alone guitar amp.

Model T, Hiwatt, Superlead, etc...  will entertain all offers.

The amp had a run-in with a tech that didn't know what he was doing - but it was just serviced by Doc Electro in Louisville, KY.  He is the amp master.  He gave me a 6mo transferable warranty.  I have put about 10 hours on it (all new tubes, caps, etc) and it sounds awesome, just not the sound I am going for.  Only modifications I am aware of (aside form replaced parts) are a switch to toggle the 8ohm output to 4ohm (16ohm output still there too!) and the power switch is non-original.  Grounded power cord.  And the output transformer was replaced some time ago (long before I got it), but works great.  So loud.

Thanks!

Is the amp in Lousiville? Would you be interested in any smaller (30ish) watt high end boutique stuff, or are you a "big watt" kinda guitarist?
Also, would you trade up, give up some cash with the 2000S?

-EDIT- I just saw your next post which says you live in Cincinnati.

I am more of a big watt guy.  :)

I have the privilege of playing with the loudest bassist and drummer in the world.  I need to keep up!

Depending on what you have - I may be willing to put in some cash, but I don't have a ton of that stuff at the moment.

What do you have?

I've got a lot of stuff, but I know what I can get for most of my stuff and I'm not sure about the value of the 2000S. I'm sort of quirky about what mods are OK and which are IMO "defacing".
From the picture you linked it looks like some stuff going on with the switches, and maybe a pilot light drilled into the front of the chassis. Is the output impedance toggle drilled into the chassis also? Do you have any pics of the back, or of the chassis out of the case? What was the OT replaced with?
Is there a cash figure you would sell it for?

Sorry for the million questions!

No problem on the questions.  Gotta know what you're after!

Yes, the power switch on the front is non-original (as seems that it was slightly larger than the hole allowed for - so the chassis surrounding the original button is snipped away a little bit), as well as an added pilot light.  The impedance switch is indeed drilled in to the chassis.

The power switch replacement and pilot light were in there when I got it.  I had the impedance switch added as I honestly never thought I would get rid of this amplifier - and already had cuts to the chassis (on the face).

I will get some pics Monday night.  Don't think I will have time to get down to my space before then.

I really don't have any idea what I would sell it for - if I were to.  I was kinda hoping to trade - or at least have an offer so I could "shop" a little bit for an amp in that price range to replace it.  I definitely like having a backup amp.  I would be interested in a Music Man HD130 (+ cash or something else) if you have one of those laying around.  I borrowed one a while back while both of my amps were at the shop and kinda dug it.  An HD130 and a guitar would be a done deal for me.

Totally forgot to get more pics last night.

The amplifier is also missing the back bow-tie shaped cross bar.  Forgot about that.

Stay tuned.

PICS!

http://www.sugarburninc.com/images/slide.php?DIR=2000s

I have a few of the guts I will try to get up tomorrow...  They were taken before Doc Electro worked his magic on it.  A tech worked on it before him and left out a cap in the negative feedback loop, had a cold solder on the cathode of a preamp tube, and had a micorphonic preamp tube as well...  needless to say it sounded like crap.  Doc fixed it all up and it sounds very great.

Also, that is in fact an Ampeg V9 (9x10!) cab it is sitting on.  Looks tasty.
