beta lead as a bass amp?
« on: May 04, 2002, 05:02:00 pm »
Is is possible to use a Sunn Beta Lead head with Beta 105 Speaker cab as a bass amp?  I am in the market for a small yet powerful bass amp and I have the oportunity to buy this set up.  The cabinet contains i belive a 15"driver a smaller mid cone and a tweeter.  If I drive bass signals through this amp will i totally A. destroy the head B. destroy the cabinet C. all of the above.

thanks.

I don't know anything about the Sunn 105 cabinet.  But as far as the head goes, you won't hurt a thing playing bass through it.  There really wasn't a lot of difference between the bass and lead versions of most of the old Sunn equipment.  For amps like the beta and concert series, the only real difference was reverb on the lead named amps.  A Model "T" was always marketed as both a lead and bass amp.

thanks for the confirmation of what i suspected.  i thought that my friend would sucessfully play very loud bass sound through a beta lead but i couldn't quite recall.

i suppose i will try the rig out and see how the cabinet sounds.
