1000s?
« on: January 04, 2000, 01:27:00 pm »
Hi,
I've have a sunn 1000s and a 612 cabinet.  Both of these seem to be missing from manuals/webpages that I can find.
Does anyone know anything about either of these items (rarity, year made, specs etc.)?

thanks Shawn

Shawn;
I find the 1000S in my 1969 catalog. You can pull the chassis out of the cabinet and find date stamps or check the pot date code (also used on filter caps). It puts out 120 watts RMS through a quartet of 6550's. As you know this amp has tremolo and reverb and is the guitar-amp version of the famous 2000S. The 1000S was mated with a 2 x 15" JBL D15S bottom. The 1200S amp, electronically the same as the 1000S, came with the 6 x 12" cabinet that you have. Again, I've found it in my 1969 catalog. I think that these are somewhat rare since they were really expensive and the top-of-the-line Sunn amps....so only pro's could afford them. The 1000S (amp and speaker cab)listed for $1,295 and the 1200S listed for $1,145. And that was a chunk of change in 1969! Hope this helps!

Ryan,
Thanks so much for the info.  I bought the cab and head at an antique shop on a whim for 300 bucks, so it was nice to see I didn't get ripped off (Not that i hadn't gotten 300 dollars worth of enjoyment out of it.

thanks again,
shawn
