Beta Lead 410 combo with 610 Ohm MOD HELP
« on: June 24, 2010, 11:06:03 am »
I want to use my beta lead combo with my 610 the combo looks like its at 8 ohms but I havent really scoped it out yet and the 610 is at 6 ohms. So in parallel its 3 . something ohms and the amp is good down to 4. I am concerned because my beta lead head just died when I had it through the 610 and I dont want the anything happening to the combo. My real question is could the amp be modded to be stable down to say 3 ohms or is that just going to be an expensive pain in the ass to pull off. Any ideas or suggestions would be awesome, thanks.

The Beta 410 used 16 ohm speakers so you have a 4 ohm load. Best thing to do is use another power amp to drive the 610. An Alpha or Beta slave would do the job. Some other power amps don't sound good as guitar power amps so YMMV.

Or  a  "series cable"  for hooking the two together in series.

The series cable would put me up to 10 ohms though right, I mean wouldnt that singnificantly drop the output power if its so far from its optimal load?

As far as power amps go, there is almost no difference between 100W Alpha and Beta. The 100W (@4 ohms) Alpha power amp schematic even shows some level controls and input jacks with a note that says Beta Power Plus only. The Alpha series guitar amps had only 50W power amps and different (from Beta) preamps with no channel switching. The 100W Alpha power amp was only in the Alpha Slave and PA mixers.
