100S Shots
« on: January 14, 2014, 01:19:06 am »
Looking around the internet, I saw no gutshots of the 100S. I'm about to have a tech recap my 100s and get it into service.
I know that there was some previous work don't on it. Take a look and see what you think might not be original ..are those two black caps original?

Which ones? The 1000mfd, 35V ones? or the 0.1mfd, 400V ones?

That whole printed circuit board with the 1000uF caps on it is not original. It is some kind of Dynaco power supply upgrade kit, must be? Also the blue/black Xicon radial caps are non-original replacements. The rest looks original.

The PCB is original; it's the tremolo circuitry and recovery stage for the reverb! The only caps that appear to be non-original are the two, blue Xicon electrolytic caps for the negative bias supply. Replacement of the original can capacitor is problematic in that higher wall voltages of today will cause the DC delivered by the transformer to exceed the voltage capacity of the replacement can capacitor. Your amp tech should understand this. You can search this forum for work-arounds to solve this problem. With limited space under the chassis, I would consider a pair of capacitors wired in series (totem configuration with 220K 2 watt balancing resistors) in front of a new can capacitor for the later stages.

Good Luck!

The 0.1uF Black caps in the middle by the phase inverter tube socket are original. They are Black Cat caps and are fine caps as long as they aren't leaking DC. The caps on the board might be original, and the board is the reverb and trem circuitry. Sometimes the connections on this board get a loose solder joint and cause intermittent issues. I fixed one that would resonate on a low G on a guitar and oscillate....but not on any other notes. The problem was a loose solder joint on that board.
