Again FS: 1970 Sunn 1200S with 6X12 cab
« on: July 29, 2008, 05:05:16 pm »
ASking $1600 shipped anywhere in the continental U.S.
OFfers considered.

The cab is loaded with original EMinence Alnicos, one of which I had to have reconed. The grille cloth is non-original but done well and long ago.

Is it sold, or did you give up trying after only 4 days? I would list it wherever the one was listed that brought $1100 in Feb., although I've noticed a pretty steep drop in Sunn gear sale prices in eBay sold auctions in the last several months.  :x

All that means it's time to buy old Sunn gear, not sell old Sunn gear. It's cyclical, just like anything else.
I don't imagine the prices will stay depressed forever, it's not like they are making any more of them!

On the bright side, I think right now I'd rather be sitting on a pile of vintage tube amps than a bunch of vacant investment real estate...

I suspect that the market for sunn stuff is down for a couple reasons.  All sunn is in the US by and large so its gonna be tied to the American economy, which isn't doing so hot.  All musical gear is generally going to fall into the luxury category too so naturally when times are tough people can't buy luxuries...no matter how sick their tone is ;-)

Okay, fellows, you have my apologies. The amp is still for sale.
I had a girl pull out in front of me and wreck me and my Harley a week ago Sunday. I was on meds last week and not really thinking well.
I would entertain offers. IF it is time to buy Sunn amps, try an offer.

I need to sell this amp. No love? that's okay....desire will get it done! You can consumate the love affair after receipt of the amp.  $1000 and shipping for the head and the cab. IMHO, the grille cloth is original although not 'normal' for the period. PIcs of the aplication and staples forthcoming.

Wally, just curious what you've learned about shipping that speaker cab. Who will, who won't, is it oversize, is it freight etc.

I'll look into it.The speaker cab measures roughly 46"X30"X15" without the casters as it sits. WEight? Right at 115 pounds.
The originality of the grille cloth has been questioned. I had thought that it was original due to the overall excellent condition of the amp. I was wrong. I pulled the head grill and found original staple holes.
I weighed the head this morning....59 pounds in fighting trim.
Those big chunks of iron don't resist gravity, do they?

FEd Ex will ship this as freight....The head is reasonable. The cab is the freight part due to the girth....not the weight.

The head just sold. I hated to break it up.....thank you for the interest.
The 6X12 cab is still available.

I would agree that now is a good time to buy old Sunn equipment. That's why I'm loking for old heads and especially old cabinets to go along with my "mountain" of Coliseum Bass heads!

Well, the cab is nowsold to the buyer of the head....now to find a way to get it there, right? Thanks, Sandro. The two pieces belogn together.
And...thanks to the Sunn forum. The market for these Sunn amps is small, but this forum keeps the folks who are interested in touch.
