I have a 1974 Sunn Model T which has an excellent sound and came equipped with old American Tung-Sol 6550's. It's time to replace those babies and I need some good "sound" advice ;) I'm not in to "gritty" or "harsh" sound.

Which tubes would be best? Someone mentioned KT88's?

>Russian Tung Sol?
>Sovtek?
>Electro Harmonix?
>Svetlana?
>SED
Or???

I have yet to find a tube that will stand up to the old tung-sols, and that is all I use in mine.  I know others have their favorite current source of 6550 style tubes so maybe you should wait until they post how great they are - I've tried them all and could only disagree.

My source is Antique Electronics but it has been about a year since I've had to find any, so I don't know how well their NOS of tung-sols are currently.  Worth checking out.

I'm going with JJ KT-88's in my Model T. I haven't done it yet, but they've been suggested to me the most as far as new tubes that are supposed to be as faithful to the original design of the amp goes.  But, everybody has their favorite.
