Sunn Beta Lead 2x12 vs. Sunn Beta Lead
« on: December 10, 2010, 01:27:54 pm »
So my bandmate and I are faced with a predicament. We can trade a guitar that me mutually own for a Beta Lead 2x12 however that would put him out a guitar. Or we can sell some of our mutually owned equipment and buy a Beta Lead head.

It's really a simple decision of what deal do want to go through with. But I'd like to hear some advantages and disadvantages of having one over the other. Any advantages/disadvantages really (i.e. needing a cab for the head, the weight of the 2x12)

Also, can you hook up to an extra cab with the 2x12? And can you connect to two cabs with the head? Basically, I'd like to know everything about the 2x12 and the head when it comes to actually playing and practicality (lugging them around and what not).

My 2x12 doesnt have wheels, and it is super heavy.

Also, I had asked a question about adding cabinets on here before, and what I was told was that the 2 speakers are wired to be 4 ohms, so if you want to use a different cab, you have to disconnect the internal speakers (easy to do). The manual backs this info up.

I'd get the head.   Easier to use as a preamp, or for versatility w/ cab options.
When life gives you lemons, buy amplifiers.

This combo has wheels. I'm thinking maybe getting the combo and making a wooden case for just the head or finding a broken down Beta Lead and reusing the wooden casing. This way we'll have a combo and a head.

Seems like a lot people do that. The "head" comes out of the combo cabinet pretty easily.

The combo with comes with the added bonus of having the killer looking angled baffle.

It looks like my bandmate and I are gonna be getting the combo. Does anyone have a spare casing for a Beta or a junked Beta?
