Whats the 1967 Sonaro tube lineup?
« on: February 23, 2002, 08:57:00 pm »
I have aquired a 67 Sonaro without tubes and some burnt resistors on the feedback circuit. I can't find a schematic for it and am not shure of the tube lineup. My guess is GZ34, EL34, 7199,or 6AN8, 12AX7. Does anyone know what goes into those tube sockets for shure. Or maybee a schematic for that year. I really would like to use this amp. I can supply pictures of the chassis. :???:

My '69 Sonaro has 7199, 12AX7, EL34s, GZ34 as the standard tubes.  Take a look at the Sonic-I schematic on this site to see if it matches up with yours.  I've used this one to work on my Sonaro.  All of the Sunn amps from this era are pretty similar.  Should be easy to tell which tubes yours uses from looking at the schematics of a, say Sonic-I and a 200S and comparing the values of the caps and resistors around the PI and the output tubes.

Good luck!

...or just look at the pinout at the PI...they are different for 7199 vs. 6AN8A

Thanks again for all the tips. I found the SONIC I-40 Schematic is very close to the 67 Sonaro I have. I went through the truoble of tracing out the circuit and just updated the Sonic schematic to my Sonaro's circuit. My amp has the Dynaco A-470 instead of the 3-40T but the wiring is the same for both. My updated Schematic for my Sonaro built 9/14/67 is available to all you SUNN Heads at:

The transformer and chokes listed on the schematic are suggestions for replacement parts.I put a fresh set of tubes in it and a few repairs. The amp works great. Next project is to fix my 1000s.
