Title: AMPEG V4 CABINET review?

Hi all!

I have an opportunity to buy an Ampeg V4 4x12 cabinet off a friend for $250... It's loaded with (2) Cerwin Vega PS 12s and (2) Celestion G12K-85s... Everything is fine structurally, with only minor tears in the tolex. I have yet to test out this cab, and have never heard one really that I can remember... Is this a decent price for this cab? What do you think of that mix of those 2 particular sets of speakers? I'm still pretty new at this, just wondering if this is a good value or not. Obviously, how it sounds will trump all, most likely.

The last one I spent any quality time around one was some 35 odd years ago, but I still remember how that rig sounded; fantastic, like butter.
It was a full Ampeg stack, a V4 head and a pair of V4 cabs. It stood out because at that time in MY mind a 412 guitar "stack" was a Marshall, Hiwatt, maybe Orange, never really considered Ampeg as a worthy contender in the guitar world.
That particular rig was a real eye opener for me.
I roadied for that band for a couple of years, and every time I heard it I swear it sounded better, don't remember what they were loaded with so I can't help you with that. I'm sure that the amp and the phenomenal guitarist using it (Jeff Taylor R.I.P.) contributed mightily, but that rig was absolutely killer.

Have you checked eBay completed auctions to see what they are selling for? I haven't looked myself, but I betcha there are some on there you could use to estimate value.

Thanks for your reply @EdBass! I've done a little research on pricing, and these seem to go anywhere from $100-$600 depending on if they are loaded with speakers or not, condition, age, etc... I was more curious about what people thought of that set up with two different pairs of speakers. I'll need to do a little more research on the speakers themselves!

I'm going to test out this cabinet on Monday and depending on the results, I'll most likely snag it!
