Title: Sunn Tone Stack
Post by: D.M.N. on June 09, 2021, 10:43:19 am
Out of curiosity, as I was messing about with the Duncan Tone Stack Calculator recently, does anyone know exactly what the Tone stack on the 60s Sunn amps, specifically the 2000s or 200s, was? I've read a variety of differing answers, namely modified FMV, or flat at 0, but no solid answer. And my understanding is the Contour doesn't quite work as a traditional mid control, but more of a sweep of what mid frequencies are accentuated. Any more concrete information would be appreciated, or if you have a model for the TSC and values that'd be fantastic.

I looked into that as well, some time ago. The conclusion I came to was that the tone stacks used were essentially flat (as flat as they can be, that is) when all tone controls were at zero.

I have not looked into the Contour control.

DMN, message me if you'd like to sell one of your amps (1200, 2000, 1000, 200) :-)

I have attached a pdf of the PJ Baxandall white paper on tone stacks. It's not exactly what is being used here, but has good information for curious tech weenies.

No, definitely not what was used on the 200S or 2000S, but similar to what was used in the 2G Model T.
