I used my Spectrum II on both of our records & we're not "doomy", just crappy indie-rock- but a real band, nonetheless. I was running it through a classic series ampeg 410hlf & it sounded amazing. Now I'm running it through a homemade 2x12 cabinet & it doesn't sound that great. I'm working on it, though. I might replace the 2x12 baffle with a 1x15 baffle & get myself a d140 or k140. Anyhow, here's what it sounded like on record:

awesome band Modern Life is War out of Iowa uses i think the 300t, ive seen them run model t's.

awesome band, awesome sound.  they also use traynor and old old ampegs

I agree completely.  Definitely one of the most inventive bands in punk(or hardcore, or whatever).  Seeing them live convinced me to pick up a Traynor Bassmaster, which is a nice juxtaposition from the sound of my Solarus.

They're playing for a radio station sponsored show on campus later this semester... (Modern Life is War, that is) I get to interview them on my show!

I would consider anyone who's playing music with SUNN amps real bands.
Collectively our band uses 2-4x12's,1-4x15,and 1x18 all SUNN cabs.
1-SUNN BETA BASS, 1-73' Concert lead,1-Concert SLave.
We also use an EARTH SOUND RESEARCH KT 3000 with 4 KT88's
and a Marshall straight 4x12 cab. 1 Ampeg SVT head and 8x10 cab.
1 bass player 1 guitar player. Our drummer uses LUDWIG 28" bass drum!!!
Like a hammer to you eardrums.   :x

No Sunn anymore? NO WAY:

Die Ă„rtzte (very popular, they play up to 60.000 Festivals, fat, I mean really fat major deal) do use the 300T for the recording session as a bass amp. The bassman (rod) played with the rainbird before.

Colourhaze uses two 2000S, live and in the studio.

Kyuss used a concert bass amp (see photoinlet on "blues for the red sun");

ISIS uses a lot of Sunn stuff aswell!

etc, etc.

Greetings

good morning...
speaking of REAL BANDS"using SUNN...do any  of you remember the KINGSMEN  using SUNN? After all, their bass player, NORM SUNDHOLM  was a "FOUNDING FATHER" OF SUNN. I have a very modest (due to space available) yet VERY PROUD collection of what i KNOW are SUNDHOLM -MADE  SUNN AMPS. Let me say:
"THEY CRANK!!!" THEYRE BIG,BEAUTIFUL,and HEAVY, AND REALLY REALLY LOUD!!!!!  Among them is a
'68-'69 200S... AND WHAT AN AMP IT IS.....ALSO A '66 SPECTRUM 1 W/ original covers.
Again,if anyone out there has any liturature, (promo items, banners, name plates etc) from that era.. even amps (no solidstate), that hey want to,or can part with, let me know...

About "REAL" bands: from 1977 to 1980 I was in as close to an all Sunn band as we could get. Playing very loud hard rock and some fusion stuff we had 2 gits, drums, bass. I was playing thru 2 Sunn coliseums into 3 sunn 215s cabs filled with K-140's, My Model T sat on my gits Sunn 200s cab with D-130's and his Fender(only non-Sunn) small showman with also 2 D-130's. other git had a model T and 2 Sunn 412s cabs. How's that for almost all Sunn?? so 6 sunn Cabs and 4 Sunn amps and I had a Spare 2000S cab with CV 15"s and a 200S amp ta boot! which would also be on stage. Wall to wall Sunn Cabs and amps and after all the Showman (Fender0 is a cousin to Sunn anyhow.
PEACE
SUNNMON

EdBass,

I think that the days of equipment companies making endorsements is  alittle out dated.  There are instances where a musician or group will appear in an advertisement for one brand or another, but I think that the days of the whosale endorsements are a thing of the past.  I remembered the Beatles, the Stones, and other british groups using Vox amps.  The'se same groups would appear inadvertising for the product, but they were required, under contract, to use the equipment.

The endorsement deals still exist, but as I posted earlier it's mostly just a discount on equipment.
There are still big time contracted endorsements, but not as many, and you gotta be a household name in your field (actual talent has very little to do with endorsability as in most popular music success stories).

Seeing that great Mountain clip reminded me of this one, which I happened upon a few days ago:
