Title: What active guitar pickup is best/heaviest for metal?
Post by: OTTO on February 09, 2011, 11:04:13 pm: I love EMG 85s in the bridge.. but I am looking into/doing research to find a GNARLY tone

Im looking for something unique, atypical from what people mostly use.

They are way too harsh for me, not my style. If your playing thrash or any metallica type stuff then you'll be just fine with active pickups.
You either love em or hate them.

the Mean90 are the best match I could find for my baritone Lespaul to this date, more low end, string attack feel, overtones...more GNARL'n'growl...haha!

it's like every instrument has his best pu match...you just need to find it.

but ANYWAY I have also heard of these completely insane pickups called "warpigs"...

yeah the subject might be move in the right section but I'm always up for talking gear...haha! I'm a gear whore. :roll:

unfortunetly, never tried the «warpigs» but I'll go see what's up with those.

I had a friend who had them in his Les Paul and swore by them for great stoner/doom tones.

yeah im pretty sold on the warpigs myself. Aren't you glad I posted in the "wrong forum" nater ? :wink:

So far, I've preferred EMG 85s in the bridge rather than 81's like most people...
