I love EMG 85s in the bridge.. but I am looking into/doing research to find a GNARLY tone
Im looking for something unique, atypical from what people mostly use.
-
Personally i never used active pickups until my guitar was destroyed. I have used my buds sg with EMG's for a bit, I have to say i dont like active pickups.
They are way too harsh for me, not my style. If your playing thrash or any metallica type stuff then you'll be just fine with active pickups.
You either love em or hate them.
Also wrong forum dude.

I prefer hot-wounded passive pu, got enough power with the dirt and amp I use.
the Mean90 are the best match I could find for my baritone Lespaul to this date, more low end, string attack feel, overtones...more GNARL'n'growl...haha!
it's like every instrument has his best pu match...you just need to find it.
Also wrong forum dude.
why wrong forum? gnarly tone goes with Sunn amp to me. oh but you need the Sunn touch to get there...haha. :-D

Also wrong forum dude.
I asked it in this forum b.c I use sunn gear and wanted sunn gear fanatics advice. Thats all. :)
but ANYWAY I have also heard of these completely insane pickups called "warpigs"...

yeah the subject might be move in the right section but I'm always up for talking gear...haha! I'm a gear whore.
unfortunetly, never tried the «warpigs» but I'll go see what's up with those.

Otto from Nebraska?

War Pigs are not active if I'm not mistaken and any of those pups from Bare Knuckles are super expensive, I think they are like $300 a pop or close to it. http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/pickups.php?cat=humbuckers&sub=contemporary&pickup=warpig
I had a friend who had them in his Les Paul and swore by them for great stoner/doom tones.

That is one kick ass pickup. I'll def look into buying one.

yeah im pretty sold on the warpigs myself. Aren't you glad I posted in the "wrong forum" nater ?
So far, I've preferred EMG 85s in the bridge rather than 81's like most people...
Thanks guys, I'll continue my reasearch.
