Title: Sunn pickin
Post by: Angry-Again on January 31, 2011, 04:38:34 pm
This weekend I had a chance to buy some vintage Sunn gear. Among the items I found were:
Sunn 410S 4x 10" Speaker Cabinet
Sunn Concert Lead 200w Power Amplifer head
Sunn SX8350 Powered 8 Channel Mixer Amplifier Head
Sunn 2x 10" floor monitor
Sunn 1x 15" Floor monitor

It all works great with the exception of the 2x20 floor monitor, the speakers are trashed. The rest of the stuff sound great, Very loud and clear. It smells a little moldy, but that adds to the vintage experience right? This setup certainly has an interesting tone, very different from other newer amps I have.

That is a great deal on vintage Sunn gear.I scored a 1979 Sunn Beta Bass amp head with a two 15" speakers cabinet(205) for $100.00 out of a pawn shop. I have since then added the foot switch it came with. It is nice to feel the pickers pleasure.

I'm really impressed with how the concert lead head powers for being as old as it is! Man that thing is sick, sick loud, I wont put the old 410s cab to any abuse over 3 1/2 on the volume. I'd hate to blow it up, ill use a newer cab to abuse if I wanna get loud. Honestly, for non concert use it's really way too loud. Anything past two on the volume gets my wife mad as hell! LOL! I really like the tone out of it, Sounds best with my Gibson Maestro Fuzz Tone FZ1A pedal through my Gibson SG. It has just a great Vintage tone. Really old buzzed up Beatles or Rolling Stones sounds right on.
