I have a Sunn 200S cab loaded with JBL D15S speakers wich I believe are D-130's made by JBL for sunn, I'm using a Concert Bass head and lately with the volume arround 4 I can hear a buzz-rattle conning from one of the speakers, would this be the voice coil or the cone?A recone at Orange County Speaker is listed at $180 - $190 I found this site online that sells recone kits http://cgi.ebay.com/JBL-Preassembled-Recone-Kit-for-D140-E140-K140-4-ohm_W0QQitemZ7410157608QQihZ016QQcategoryZ47095QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Has anyone here done a recone with a kit like this?

Ted Weber at webervst (www.tedweber.com) can recone the JBL D130 and does a fabulous job. He's got a much better price too. As of a month or two ago he couldn't do the D140 because he didn't have a good enough cone for it. If you supplied him with a cone he could probably do it, but I'd suggest to email him. There is no one better for reconing that I've ever found.

Thanks!!! At least $100 cheaper than Orange County Speaker! Do you know if the D-15S is infact the same as a D-130 and if so can it be reconed as a D-140?

The motors and chassis of all of the AlNiCo D and K series JBL 15's are the same, the difference is in the cone/vc assembly. It essentially becomes what you cone it as. I don't think there are any factory D or K recone kits anymore. I have found E series 140 and 130 kits available, and while they are a little less responsive, they drop right in and also add a little more power handling capacity.

Email Ted Weber with your recone questions and he usually answers within a day. Theres no one who knows more about them and recones them than him IMO.

Thanks! I e-mailed Ted and he does have excellent prices, although he said he never heard of a D-15S he said it made sense it was labeled so specifically for Sunn, I will try to have them redone as 140's, also were Gauss speakers ever used in Sunn cabs from the factory,There's a pair on e-bay that say they were taken from a 1969 215 Sunn cabinet?
