Title: Model T into a 6x10
Post by: carnygoat on April 26, 2009, 04:21:34 pm
i know this might be a simple question, but, what impedance should I put my Model T at? the cab is supposedly 6ohm, is it safer to go to 4ohm or 8ohm? for the amps safety first!

also is there any way to run a 4x12 @16 ohms along with the  6ohm 6x10?

thanks!

Run the Model T on 4 ohms. For a 16 ohm 4x12 you would need to find one where the individual speakers were 16 ohms each and re-wire it into a series-parallel configuration.

A 16ohm cabinet and a 6ohm cabinet would be run at 4ohms.

Here's some quick math(correct me if I'm wrong in this, please!):

16*6  = 96
16+6  = 22
96/22 = 4.3636363636363636363636363636364

Hope that equation helps!

Hi,

sorry I am a little confused about the math here, is there anybody could explain where those numbers come from? I get the idea of the 1st figure 6 -16ohm speakers multiplied makes 96 and the 16+6 =22 but why?

so if I had a 4 x12 would it be 4 @16ohm =4x16= 64
divided by 20, that equals 3, would that mean I would run a 4 x 12 with 16 ohm speakers at 3ohms? or is the wiring different, series vs parallel ?

and then or would it be possible or feasible to rewire a cab in a different way as they can more closely match?

sorry just got thrown off by this, and really want to have this knowledge.

thanks!

sorry, my apologies!

Here I go again:

16ohm*6ohm  = 96ohm
16ohm+6ohm  = 22ohm
96ohm/22ohm = 4.3636363636363636363636363636364ohm1
so, multiply the ohms, add the ohms, and divide the results to get the ohm rating you'll be running the cabinets at.

Hope that helped!!

A quick question some what related to this topic.

I have a 6 ohm 6x10 and an 8 ohm 4x12.  So assuming I'm doing this math right it runs like this (correct me if I'm wrong)...
6ohm*8ohm= 48ohm
6ohm+8ohm= 14ohm
48ohm/14ohm= 3.428571 repeated

My head has one 4 ohm input, two 8 ohm inputs, and one 16 ohm input.  That being the case, would I have to rewire one of the cabs to make it possible for me to run both?  If so, how would I go about doing that?

This is probably a really beginner question and I'm sure you guys are tired of answering it so I apologize ahead of time, but any help would be great.

I'm still pretty novice when it comes to all of this, but a good bit of advice I received was to not get too caught up about ohms.  I run my Solarus at 8ohms into a 612s at 6ohms.  As long as you're not going all-out at 10 for hours at a time, you shouldn't have a problem.  That being said, read up as much as you can about ohm's law, and any suggestions others might have.

But running cabinets at 3ohms out of a 4ohm amp tap should be fine.

So just basically head to cab to cab or head to 1 cab and then head to another cab(since I have two 8 ohm inputs)?

Which setup would work best out of these 2:

Head>cab 1>cab 2
Head>cab 1, Head> cab 2
