Title: Sunn 1500s
Post by: asaphelps on September 28, 2009, 10:17:26 am
Hello,

I have a friends who was offered a 1500s, he plays bass.  I have read about people using the 1500s as a bass amp with really good results.  I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this, and could give me their thoughts or opinions of the 1500s for bass.

The real questions is, is he better off holding out for a 2000s, or are the differences between the 1500s and 2000s not really a big factor, or not something necessarily negative?

Thanks for any thoughts!

From the Sunn Catalog Thread it looks like the 1500S was only available in 1968 as a 4 knob version. Does the amp have Tremolo and Reverb? I converted a 68 1200S to a 2000S. There are only a couple of components to change in the tone control circuit. The choice you have to make is what to do with the Bass Boost switch. I connected things as if the Bass Boost switch was always on. Could use a pull switch on one of the pots but I couldn't find one easily. The 1500S probably doesn't sound too much different than a 2000S stock so I say go for it.
