I picked up a late '60s Sunn Solarus head. Its got the older diagonal weave grillcloth, and doesn't have a mid boost switch. Most Solarus heads I've seen have the rectangle weave grillcloths, and all have the mid boost switch. Anyone know anything about the one I have? Transition model maybe? It was set up with EL34s at 40W when I picked it up too.

Hi there,the original Solarus was a one piece combo,the second version is the one you have,EL 34's (6CA7's) around 40 watts,no mid boost switch,7199 phase inverter,came with a partially open 2 x 12" cab,same size as a Sonaro 1 x 15" cab just a different baffle board and backboard.I prefer this version over the mid boost/6550 version,nice amp,good luck,Mel.

And my Solarus, "piggy back" head must be the "transition" between the head that SimmsWatts has and the two 6550 version because I have the (2) EL34's, 40 watts, but WITH a mid-boost switch and rectangular grill cloth.
