Sunn Alpha Six Blown?
« on: September 12, 2002, 09:08:00 am »
Hi,
I have a Sunn Alpha Six. While jamming recently the sound started cutting out. (It sounded like a cell phone on the edge of service)

I waited for it to cool down and still no go.

I have power, and I'm able to use it throught the "post eq out" channel so I can use it with another amp, but I'd like to know if this is worthwile to try to repair.

Any ideas?

Sunn Alpha Six Blown?

Hello:
The power board in the Alpha is most likely a standard (for Sunn) 20-0135. It is easily repaired. Schematics, component locator, and test proceedures are contained in the Beta series service manual located on this site. If by chance it has a 20-0166 power board then use the SA20-21 schematic. They both use all generic parts readily available at most electronics parts houses including Radio Shack. Since the power board suplies the + - power for the mixer section chances are there are no problems in the power supply. Bad connections are the primary reason gear quits, check those first.
