Sunn 215 JBL vs. 215 transducer speakers quality difference
« on: January 11, 2025, 06:09:51 am »
Hello everyone,

I recently acquired a Sunn 200S head and am deciding whether to get a Sunn 215 with JBL speakers or one with the transducer speakers. Is the difference in quality large enough that people wouldn't consider playing through the transducer speakers if one had a chance to get a cab with the transducers, and instead wait to find a cabinet with the JBLs?

I'll be using this to play bass. Thanks for any help.

The 200s is from 1968 so I wanted to get a 215 cabinet from the 60s or earl 70s.

JBL speakers are just LOUDER. For Bass you want D-140, K-140 or E-140. Insist on seeing the back of the speakers by taking the back off the cabinet.

One way to tell the difference between D-130 and D-140 JBL speakers in by the cone. If you take a flashlight and press is against the grill cloth and also press your face against the cloth, you can see the cone and be able to tell if it has the ribs like the D-140 in this picture.

Thanks for that info.

Regarding volume, would you say the transducers are more appropriate for a lower volume setting then, such as in a home setting?
