Well, I play through a 1975 Sunn Concert Lead and it's 200 watts solid state. There's distortion on the amp which I believe is a field effects transistor. Cranked up it is one of the worst distortions I have ever heard, but when it's set on about 3-4 it makes a great dirty sound. This amp is loud too. I've seen them on eBay a lot lately. You might want to look at one of these.

You want LOUD - like kick you in the chest LOUD?  Go for the 300T.  I know its in the "new" Sunn category, but it really is a beauty to play through.  Its got a distortion channel, altough I don't have a need for it.

Well i play out of a 71 Coliseum 880, that has distortion built in. It is rated at 350 watts or so, and peaks at 880. Great amp but good luck trying to find one.

coliseum 880 sounds like what i am looking for, anyone know anything about coliseum lead? is that less wattage than the 880?

oh, a tech question, when it says wattage (150 for ex.) and then it says RMS, what does that mean, beacause i have heard of getting amps at 150 to 300 or 350, how does that work?
