PS1200 and DMX
« on: April 30, 2003, 07:14:46 pm »
HI all, I am a member of a small community theatre. We have a ETC Aclaim 300 lighting board that uses DMX dimmer packs. We also have four Sunn PS1200 dimmer packs from an old system we no longer use. My question is can the PS1200 packs be used with a DMX board? We are on a limited budget and using the old packs for additional circuts would double the number of circuts available and save money.

Help

PS1200 and DMX

Hello:
I'm not sure I can help you. The PS1200 uses a Multiplexed signal. It uses standard 3 conductor mic cables with the 0v to 10v 64 channel multiplex riding on a DC voltage (for controller power). The multiplex clock is set by the controller and the slaves sync to it. It is the same system used by NSI (same engineer) although now they use 128 or 256 channels. The signal has a -5v sync pulse and then 64 clock intervals with the analog voltage level 0-10. If you can compare that to what the DMX uses for signal maybe it will help. I have not used or tested a DMX contoller.
