Beta Lead with sick A channel
« on: June 14, 2003, 08:33:20 am »
The subject says it all.  My B channel sounds great, but the A channel is about 1/4 power and tone dead.  I took it to a local guitar amp repair guy, and just from the way I described the problem, he started talking about cmos chips that were rare and hard to find and that it would cost more to fix than it was worth....

I've had this amp since 1978 and would love to see it restored to full health.

Is repair guy right, is my amp doomed to live out the rest of its life as a single channel amp or is there hope?

I am not technical at all, so if you answer this post please keep it in simple layman's terms

Thank you-

I'm not sure what the problem with your amp is... but I wouldn't trust the repair guy.  CMOS Hex Inverter chips as used in the preamp are not difficult to find at all, and most of the other chips are common op amp types.  There is one chip that may be difficult to locate, and that's the one that controls the channel switching.
