Solarus question
« on: October 25, 2003, 04:10:02 pm »
I just bought a Solarus head. Here's my question: there is a 1/4" jack located between the two power tubes that is marked as "GT-H4". What is this for?

Also, the tremelo is not working on this amp. Any advice on how to get this repaired? Reverb works fine, though.

thanks!

If the "jack" is on the top surface of the metal chassis, it's probably the bias adjustment. Look inside the jack and if you see a slot for a screwdriver it's the bias adjustment for the output tubes. It's actually a potentiometer underneath, but it looks like a 1/4" phone jack on the outside. I suspect the GT-H4 may be a sticker from a Groove Tubes output tube that somebody placed there (just a guess). Doesn't sound like anything I've seen on any other Sunn amp.

The 1/4 "jack" is, in fact, a screwdriver access to the bias pot.

The schematic for the solid state tremelo circuit on Sunn amps is posted on this web site - as are the tech manuals for these amps. A good tech can repair the tremelo which appears to be flaky on many of these amps.
