Preamp removal from amp
« on: December 06, 2003, 11:03:42 pm »
You know, since I can't get my amp to work, seems to have power amp board problems, I would still like to get that wonderful sunn sound in from my equiptment.

Anyone know how to wire up the preamp board to work as a stand-alone preamp?  Need to know what plugs from the preamp board go to what, thoughts for a pre-existing power supply I can integrate into this project, anything that might help me keep at least an important part of my sound!

Help us keep our vintage sunn gear, I love this stuff more than fender's remakes...

what amp are you using? which preamp are you planning on using as a stand alone unit?
if you are using a tube driven amp, it will be easier to just go ahead and build the entire amp, since you will be 1 transformer and a few capacitors short of a power section anyway... if you trust your circuit building skills, try building a simple dynaco type power amp like a model T.  the key to the sunn sound is the combination of all the parts.  a preamp alone will not give you the sound youre looking for. 8)

it's a '77 concert bass, would like to keep the preamp from it.

Would prefer to find a picture of ALL of the connections on their similar red logo concert bass power amp board, but seems too talk of an order on here, and I don't quite else know where to go for such pictures.

Thanks for the response
