sun 6x12 ohm question
« on: December 03, 2003, 10:58:40 pm »
I just got a sunn 612 sp there are two jacks in the back, each one running a side of the cab. So is it split 3 ohms a side or is it 6 ohms a side?  I am not sure how it is wired as I just got it and i have not pulled the speakers to check. I am also unsure of the year of manufacture on this any help would be greatly appreciated. and if anyone could point me towards more info on the web or wherever on this, that would be great too.

never owned one myself, but you can find out the impedance by using a multi-meter on the jack. chances are the jacks are wired so you can daisy chain, rather than running each side, but i could be wrong.

if you open it up you can probably see the impedance (maybe even wattage) ratings for the speakers and how it's wired, then go to www.celestion.com for some cabinet wiring diagrams (they won't show a 6x12, but will show enough info to calculate what your cab is rated at) that'll help you understand what you're looking at.

Unless it has been changed, each pair of transducers is wired in series, then the three pairs are wired in parallel, for a total of six ohms, mono. The two jacks are also in parallel, so you can daisy-chain another cabinet.
