Sceptre Speakers
« on: February 25, 2004, 12:55:37 pm »
I recently bought an old Sunn speaker cabinet, one of the original Sceptre 4x12 cabinets. Unfortuntely, it doesn't have any drivers in it.

Does anyone know what drivers were used in the Sceptre cabinet, and what might be a good modern replacement? I'm not looking for a modern sound, but rather to recreate the original Sceptre sound.

Issac,
I have a 1968 Sunn 4x12 cabinet with the original Jensen speakers....black stamped steel frame, ceramic magnet with gold label on the back. So I'd try some of the Jensen reissue speakers with the ceramic magnets. I think New Sensor carries them.
Good Luck!

Isaac,

My '69 has black stamped frames, alnico magnets, and vented silver dust caps.  They sound great!
Savor the Sawgrass!

Black stamped frames, eh? That could be Jensen. Any labels?

Does anyone know where I can find strap handles and casters similar to the ones used on old Sunn cabinets? My local hardware stores haven't been of much use, so far.

Issac,
Try Vibroworld for the handle. They carry a close repro of the Sunn corners.

Close on the corners, but the handles are the wrong length. Oh, well.
