3 boxes off a 1200s
« on: January 24, 2001, 11:55:00 pm »
I just bought a new 1200s (sounds awesome!) and am running 3 boxes from it: 2 x 15 @ 400W each, and one 4 x 10 with a horn @ 500W. Each is 8ohms.
However, I was told by a guy that I should not run an odd number of boxes off the amp as that would "throw it out of balance". Now, I don't believe this as it is a mono amp and the comination of boxes does not go below the minumum impedence of 2ohms, so I think it will be fine, but can anyone think of a good reason for not running this setup?

Thanks, Glenn.

well if im right that would depend on how the cabs are run, parallel or series, and how the output on the head is set up to run.

out of balance?????  FOTFL As long as your amp will run 2 ohms with no problems, 2.67 ohms will be ok.  I'd check on the amp temp after prolonged use though.  Get a fan for it if it starts to overheat.  What might throw it out of balance would be if the cabinets are rated different ohms.  A 4 ohm cabinet gets twice the power an 8 ohm cabinet gets when hooked together.
A World without music would be WRONG!
