more gain from A212

looking inside of my A212, i noticed that only half of the channel 2 preamp tube is used. id like to use the other half as a second stage to get a bit more gain. could someone tell me how to do this? should i set it up as a cathode follower? wire it like a model T?.. or someone else vaguely suggested that i see a marshall schematic.

what should i do?

Congratulations on the A212. I just recently got one of these myself and it looks exactly like yours, same speakers too. All I can say is that you are in for a treat. To sum up in a few words: LOUD, CLEAN and MUSICAL. christ these things are loud, but they sound great cranked up. I think I read they are 120 watts. I like to keep the channel and master volume just about wide open and adjust volume and drive with the volume on the guitar or preamp. This is one of the few amps I've owned that sound good with the guitar volume down a bit, with some of my other amp setups sometimes the tone goes all muddy on me. The A212 sounds more musical to me compared side by side with an early 70's Twin. I think those speakers really add to the sound. The drive is good for rythym but not quite enough gain for lead IMHO. I might be able to use a compressor or something to push it harder, but for now, I just use an effects processor with tube distortion and it sounds great.
Have fun.

Sunny Boy

Thanks for the feedback. My amp has a little scuzz on the screen. I was thinking about taking it to the dry cleaners. Any thoughts?
