Sunn Alpha 112p
« on: August 12, 2004, 01:56:17 am »
I recently purchased a used Sunn Alpha 112p in beautiful consition (externally, anyway; I've never opened it up because I'm far from any kind of techie).  I'm just in love with the little bugger, but I know next to nothing about it.  I've gotten a little bit from your board here, but I would like to know much more if someone has the time to tell me about it.  Here are some specific questions I had:

about how old would this amp be?
how many watts am I dealing with?
what is C-MOS Technology?
what exactly does the "p" stand for?
why does this amp seem so much louder than any other 112 combo I've ever played?

any other info you may have of any kind (specs, anecdotes, etc.) would be greatly appreciated.  This is a marvelous little devil, utterly bone-crushing distortion and volume, and I don't think I'll ever play anything but Sunn ever again.  I can't wait for the day I'm able to invest in one of those holy-grail-type '60s Sunn tube monsters.  The Alpha 112p is easily the best $150 I've ever spent on gear in my life.

You will find the info in catalogs on this web site home page.
Under parent directory scroll to 1979 catp2.jpg, 1979 catp3.jpg.
and 1979 catp4.jpg.
These pages will tell you about definitions, enclosure design and Alpha
series amps.
I think the Alpha series was a smaller version of the Beta Lead
series amps.
