reissue t as a bass amp?
« on: July 09, 2005, 10:19:26 am »
Hey guys, I posted an earlier thread about model t tubes (for the reissue which uses 6L6's) -- basically my question is do you think these tubes can push enough bass power to use a model t reissue as a bass amp for a bass tuned down to C? I know most bass amps use 6550s, but I know one Ampeg uses a 6L6... I just want some feedback before buying a reissue T, thanks!

Aren't you going to test drive it before you buy?

yeah... but it's kind of a trip to go down to where it is and if someone thinks it'd be a totally bad fit I don't want to take the time...

Well... depends on what you like for a bass sound.

The fender T is basically a high-gain guitar amp.  The lows are attenuated somewhat to reduce the possibility of getting that typical high-gain farty sounding bass.... on guitar strings.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to try it - the reduced bass can sound... tighter or having better definition.  You'd ideally want to try it with your bass and the cab(s) you intend to use.

But if you want a "thump you in the chest" kind of bass... I'd look for something different.
