i have a concert bass and a coliseum 880 and distortion seems to do essentially nothing on either model.... either it was designed that way, or there is an epidemic of broken sunn distortion units for their 70s solid state bass amps... anyway it doesn't bother me, since i doubt it's very good distortion...

i realized that you need a footswitch to turn on the distortion.... so simple.... if you don't have a footswitch, i wouldn't panic since the distortion is probably not going to be very useful for you, unless you can't afford a pedal.... depends on the sound you are going for...

oh, again i didn't read well.

ok, check the cables for the footswitch, so i'd say check the integrity of the distortion side, and also check the internals of the pedal and amp to make sure they are doing their job... all i can offer... apologies for the useless posts...
