Solarus - Tube Recommendations?

Hey everyone.  I'm getting some new tubes for my Solarus because it's getting buzzy.  The current tubes are from the previous owner - Svetlana EL34s.  I haven't owned the amp long enough to try out a bunch of different kinds of tubes so I'm looking for recommendations.

People have told me that KT-88s work really nicely because they bring out the low mids.  I have a feeling 6550s might make it sounds too Marshall-y.  The EL34s sound great but I'm just curious if anyone's got suggestions.  Let me know.

Bill,

Go to eurotubes.com and purchase a matched pair of JJ E34L.  Not EL34,
but E34L.  At $24 a pair plus $5-$6 shipping, you are in for tone.  I have installed KT88s, 6550s, EL34s, and E34Ls in many a Solarus, Sceptre, 100s, 200s, Sorado, Sonaro, etc...  You will not be disappointed.  While you are at it, pick up a new ECC83s (12ax7 balanced) and a ECC82 (12au7 balanced).

If you retube with the JJ tubes, you will be happy.  Before you invest in KT88s, give the E34Ls a try.

Chuck, I looked up the tubes you mentioned - they sound like they'll work really well.  Thanks for the advice.

Why? Do the EL34s make it sound "Fender-y?" Almost every Sunn tube amp used 6550s. To the extent that power tubes color the sound, 6550s define Sunn's sound.

Besides, I've not seen a Marshall with 6550s.
