Sonaro tubes
« on: May 19, 2006, 09:16:15 pm »
I have a Sonaro head.  It has in it right now a 12ax7 (behind the transformer), a 6AN8 (in the middle of the chassis), two EL34s and a 5U4GB rectifier.

Should the rectifier be a GZ34 instead of 5U4GB?  Gerald Weber's book says a 5U4GB draws 3 amps, but a GZ34 draws 1.75 amps, so a 5U4GB would not be a safe substitute for a GZ34, but it seems to be working OK.

Should the 6AN8 be a 7199 instead?  Can I replace the 6AN8 with a 7199 without any kind of mod?  Again, the 6AN8 seems to be working fine.

Thanks for any help.
