Sunn 610s?
« on: April 09, 2006, 09:58:47 pm »
Im buying one of these off ebay and I was wondering about the angled baffle.  the speakers pitch towards each other at a 45 degree angle.  My buddy says that will give it a louder fuller sound.  I was wondering if that were true, or if that tend to muddy up the sound?  Its loaded with all unoriginal speakers right now but i plan on loading it with some webers.  I plan on running an orange ad30 head through it.  Anyone have and ideas as to the sound quality of the baffle?
Thanks,
Andy

A guitarist in an early band of mine bought one new, with a Concert Lead head. I thought it sounded fine.

Thanks Isaac!  Turns out a buddy of mine has an all oringial one and he absolutely loves it.  On more thing...is the cab designed for guitar or bass?  I know speakers have a lot to do with the sound but so does the design of the cab.  The sound im going for is kinda of a stoner rock/doom type overdrive, hence the ad30.  I think it will sound pretty awesome once I get the webers in it.

In those days, Sunn didn't specify most cabinets as being specifically for guitar or bass. However, IMO, the 10" Sunn Transducers weren't suitable for bass at any significant volume.

I've been looking for a strong JBL 10" driver to pair with various JBL 15" drivers for bass, but I haven't had much luck. Which model JBL's did you load your 6 X 10 with, and what kind of amp are you using to drive the cabinet?

It's been probably 25 years but I believe they were D-110's and probably hard to find today,I drove the cabinet with a Model T and I had a G.M.T. 400B that I used to drive a 2-15S sunn Cab. loaded With D-140's and a prototype Music Man 18" folded horn.I used a Rick. 4001 and ran the bridge pickup to the Model T with the 10's and the neck pickup to the G.M.T. with the 15's and 18,If you can find them the D-110 sound great for bass but will make your ears bleed with guitar!!!
