The PT is not correct - it's a 200S PT (probably the Triode clone).  I emailed the guy and he swears it's correct, but it is obviously not.  A 2000S PT is about three times that size.  You can see the old mounting holes in one pic, and where they offset the PT to the right - the feedthrough into the chassis is way exposed to the left.

And why is there an external choke?  It looks like the right part, but there should be two of them and they should be internal.

He says in the auction it was stripped when he got it; it looks to me like it was assembled by someone who didn't know a whole lot about Sunns, or maybe even amps in general since it appears to be running four 6550s off a PT designed to run two.  If there were some gut shots it would be easier to tell.

trans replacement

does triode or anyone else make a replacement trans. that will work in this amp? I just checked and it looks like he ended the auction early!
I would still love to have the cab. ,I see 2000S heads on e-bay fairly often but rarley see a 2000 cab.
I just picked up a Sonic 1-40 or 1-40/C60 cab. last week I'm not sure wich it is, it's 24"x24"x15" and has a D140 and is dated 1968, I found it in a local paper for $150

He and I have been emailing.  I made a strong enough case (I sent him pics of my 2000S PT, along with a 200S) that he suspects things aren't kosher and he's going back to the techs that put it together.  He seems like a good guy, he just doesn't know much about amps.

He pulled the auction until he gets it straightened out.  I told him he should split; he'd get $800 or more for that cab, I bet, there are lots of 2000S heads out there by comparison.  The amp might bring $750, or it might bring $350, you never know about that, but he'll do better splitting.

Nobody makes a PT for that except maybe Mercury, and that would cost you several internal organs.  You might find one on eBay now and then, the Dynaco Mark VI is I think the hifi equivalent.

I think I have only seen one other 2000S cab on e-bay!!!
Do you know if the cab I picked up would be a Sonic 1-40 or 1-40/C60 ?
It's half of a 200S cab.
Thanks!!!

24X24x15 cab
« Reply #5 on: June 04, 2006, 09:13:49 pm »
Sunn also used the  1-15 cabs (24X24X15) and called them
200S Compact enclosures. Offered  as the 200S head w/ 1 cab or 2
cabs stackable like Coliseum cabs. They were offered with a
Sunn Transducer w/options of a 15'' Vega, or a JBL D-140F.
I have these shown in a SUNN Product Guide copyright 1970, but
have never seen one.

admiral B....are you confusing the Power transformer with the Output Tranny? - i understood the POWER TRANNY is the Larger tranny on the RIGHT when looking at the BACK of a 2000S - isn't it always the larger of the 2 transformers? i presume your comments are referring to the OUTPUT tranny on that 2000s amp that was ebay. :?

No, looking in from the back, on Sunns the OT is on the right - above the speaker jacks (makes sense, eh?).  The larger-is-PT is *generally* true but not for Sunns - the 60W and 120W amps have OTs that are significantly larger than the PTs.

I saw this cabinet on "the Bay" the other day and thought about going for it. I e-mailed the guy and he seems pretty straight forward. I'm wondering if this cab would sound good with that nice Coliseum Bass amp I just picked up this morning.

By the way, it's great to have a nice Sunn amp forum! :-)
