1969 sunn 200S for sale
« on: July 11, 2006, 01:13:21 pm »
Hello everyone.  I just happened upon this site to look up information about my sunn amp, and couldn't beleive the amount of enthusiasts.  I was (an am) selling my Sunn 200S amplifier.  I was going to list the pertinent information on e-bay, but with this many members specifically concerning Sunn amplification, I figured I would just as well sell it here.  Besides, everyone on this site seems to communicate and assist each other more frequently than other sites.  I am asking for $225 dollars, and the buyer pays for shipping.

About the Amp;
SUNN 200S
   All tube amplifier
   No distinguishable serial number.
It is approximately 1969.  The only date that was found was written in the amplifier chassis 3-15-69
   60 watts
   works perfectly.
4 or 8 ohm speaker outputs
   Minor scratches on the tolex.
One of the Phase/driver tubes has been bypassed from the signal chain.
I've owned it for 13 years

I was given the amplifier so I really don't know too much of the history.  When I took the chassis out, I did notice that there was a date and initials on the underside.  I would imagine this was some kind of inspection marking.  I will be posting pictures, and I will ensure that the tube circuitry and inspection marks are photographed.  I have played it many times, when playing blues gigs, but really haven't used it at all for many years.  I would guess that the first response will determine who will be the buyer of the amp.                                       Thank you for your time,
                                                                        mike

It works perfectly but one of the preamp tubes has been bypassed? The 200s only has one preamp tube!

I'd be interested in seeing the inside pics.

well, I must've listed the wrong type of tube.  It is the tube that is right behind the left transformer (if you were looking in the back of the amp)

Actually, now that I've re-looked at it, aren't there 2 preamp tubes?  The amp lists a 7025, and a 6AN8 tube.  I believe it still has KT88 (2) power tubes.

The 7025 is the preamp tube.  The 6AN8 would be the driver/phase inverter for the power amp.  The tube that's "bypassed" is the rectifier, a GZ34 I believe.

Do you know if the yellow wires, the 5 volt supply for the rectifier heater/cathode, are "ok"... or was the rectifier converted to solid state because that winding on the transformer was blown?

To be completely honest, I really don't have any idea.  I guess if I follow the wire and use a light tester, I may be able to see if there is current.?  --is there an easy way to do this, without killing myself?--HAHAHA!!
I have other pics, is this something that you can see in a picture?
