hmmm......I'm just a trusting person I guess. I wouldn't think it is a scam - its a scam when one side doesn't live up to the agreement made, either by not paying or not supplying the agreed item.
Whenever I've done what I described, I've contacted the seller by telephone before sending payment or making a final agreement. I'm not
that shady of a person, Joe. As for Romeplow, I was just giving him a little personal advice if he needs the head NOW, not in two weeks.
My latest transaction involving this method was with a transmission for my old junker of a car. The auction had six days left, and I went on vacation in 11 days. The seller and I agreed on a price. I bid that price, and he ended the auction early while I was the highest bidder (perfectly OK with eBay policy and most certainly not a scam).

Romeplow, go for the suggestion above, or just sit tight for the end of the auction.
...Now sniping the auction is perfectly acceptable, and even encouraged by eBay rules! But then you have other bidders angry at you, have to watch for angry mobs with pitchforks and torches
