model t woes
« on: October 18, 2007, 01:03:57 pm »
so dunno if it's my signal chain but i was at rehearsal yesterday, and playing as usual, then amp started to make this sound like ocean waves, but only when i would stomp my feet on the ground like it was microphonically picking up the vibration through the power tubes, which according to my keyboardist who has no exp.  were "flickering".

any ideas, really annoying to say the least

dont know-could be around 1000 different things...
how old are the power tubes in there?
are they a tight fit in their sittings?
what is the amp head sitting on? maybe isolating it could help if its picking up vibration...
as usual i suggest an amptech as last/first resort.

power tubes are six months old, its sitting on top of a full stack as has been for months, checked tube fitting, never had a problem with that and they are fine.  anyway i took it in, its probably one of the thirty year old preamp tubes.  i am not looking forward to replacing that if that's the problem.

Unfortunately, the age of a tube has no bearing on it's condition.

If the power tubes were flickering, then it is either a loose socket connection with the tube, or possibly an internal problem with the tube.

Or some sort of loose connection inside the amp.

Naw, just a stupid bandmate, found out the tubes were flickering when i struck chords, uhm der.

Gary Lowe, who used to work for aims and was an authorized repair tech for the beta series took care of it.  And damn does it sound good right now.  He said there was a bad sprague cap and cleaned all the pots, and the impedance selector pot, which i assume was slang for made my amp awesome because it seriously screams right now.
