Anybody had any luck cleaning Sunn tolex?

Does anybody know any good tricks to get their tolex clean? I'm all for that lived in patina, but that weave pattern is a bi*ch! Anybody got a secret sauce they use?

I've gotten good results by taking everything out of the cabinets, spraying them heavily with Formula 409, letting them soak for 15 minutes then scrubbing them with a scrubbrush. Wash off with water and let dry for a day or two. Sometimes it has takedn two cleanings. Once the cabinet has dried, I spray it with a tire cleaning foam and scrub again. Then a wipe down with an old towel.

Might be an easier way...but everyone thinks I have re-covered my cabinets.....until the see the divots and gouges in them.

sounds good......I'm trying to avoid anything that could dull the black tolex anymore than it already is. How about red spray paint overspray on the face plate? That one seem to be a little harder to crack. Anybody else have anything that works for them?

Hi,

I used a toothbrush for cleaning my 350B, some soap and a some kitchen paper. Took about 3 hours  :-P but worked quite well....

there's a product that's a spray with a brush right on the head, it's used to clean car upholstery, i used it on all of my stuff and had great results, the product name slips me, but check out WalMart or whatever and it's about 5 bills.

I've had good luck using diluted Simple Green with a bristly brush; I also met a music dealer/Sunn Sunn enthusiast recently who swears by something called "Spray 9" cleaner.  Worth checking out.

In the OLD DAYS I used any Cleaner with a brush. Then Finished with  a tire Dressing that had Black in it. It gave a nice shine and filled in the cracks and scuffs with Black.
