8ohm 215 cab.

Just curious but wondering how most of you have your 2 x15 cabinets wired,4,8 or 16.I currently have one of my 215S (2 421-8H)wired for 4 and the other wired for 16 (2 D-130H).

I have my 200S cabinets wired for 16 ohms. I'd prefer 8, but 8 ohm JBLs preclude that. If I went with 4, I'd hesitate to use both with the head, as it's only rated for 4 ohms.

yeah, my 215 is wired for 4 because I didn't want to wire it 16, don't know why, just didn't.  two 215 cabs wired for 8 would be ideal

I have 2  JBL D140's reconed with RCF 4ohm kits wired in series in my 215 and both of my single 15 cabinets, a Sunn 115Bh with a Utah and a BFI with a JBL 2220A as 8 ohms. I also have my small 8" JBL 2118H as an 8 ohm. With this setup, I can use any combination of 2 cabinets with my 200s. You would have to make sure your amp is wired for 16 and 8 ohms to use any other combination and using a 4 ohm cabinet with any other cabinet will drop your impedance down to an unusable point unless you are using a solid state Sunn which can go to 2 ohms.

It is usually easier to find 16 ohm speakers rthese days than 4 ohms. I see 2220J's on Ebay sometimes. Look in Pro Audio

       You know I don't know why I never thought of that,running 2 4ohm speakers in series to get 8ohms.But what I plan on doing is using my 190B with the 312S & one of the 215S cabinets,with both cabinets being wired for 8ohms.So that I can use either one or both at my disgression.I will probably be selling the D-130s soon and possibly getting either E 140's or 2226J's.

2 - 4 ohm cabs in series, never thought of that either.  I think I'll try it.  and here I was going to order speakers so I could configure it the way I wanted.  the simplest answers...

IMHO the 2226's are designed as high power speakers and really need at least 150 watts per to shine. They are also much more a sub bass speaker than the D series. When I used one in my single 15 cabinet, I had to add another speaker to get the mids and highs I like. I do play in the upper registers a lot though.

I prefer the 130's, 140's or the 2220's for my 200S.

Yeah I kind of thought so thats why I asked to see if anyone had tried them.I work for a pro audio company and our old JBL Concert Series 4835's & MC 2's had 2226's so I am very familiar with them,having reconed quite a few of them.Great sound monitor for its time,but very heavy.There happens to be 8 of the 2226J on e-bay right now for a what I feel is very reasonble asking price (175.00) thats why I was considering them.

Throw a 2118 in there with the 2226 and you have an incredible system which will handle almost anything you can through at them. A 2 to 4 uf cap in line with the 2118 is all you need.
