Sunn 118VH bass cabs

I've just scored not 1, but 2 of these jewells.     Appear to original cabs with the 300 watt 4 ohm Cerwin Vega 18s that have been reconed in recent years.  Tolex in good to real good shape.  Former owner added wheels to the bottom of the the cabs and I can certainly understand why (what was the thinking behind having the removable wheels on the back of these fat cabs anyway) and metal handles to the sides.  The only pic that I can find is thru this site, but I don't see the answer to my questions on it.  Did these cabs have handles of any kind on them originally, and if so what type and where were they located.  I think I know the answer to the second question, but would like confirmation.  The curved "scoop" is painted white on these 2 cabs, which looks pretty good, but it looks on the referenced pic that this entire area is painted black.  Tell me what you can and thanks for your input.

No handles of any kind on mine, and the scoop was all black.

The wheels were on the back so that the cabinet could sit solidly planted on the ground, then turned on its back to move it. They were removable because they'd rattle.

the one i had, had no handles of any kind.   and yes, it was all apinted black.   the guy i traded mine to had another one.   his has handles.

Thanks Sunn dudes.  I'm guessing the painted black scoop area is just a regular semi-gloss black as opposed to flat or glossy.  Thanks again.

where did you get/were the speakers reconed, i have a 118V cab that needs help, tried internet searches and even called cerwin-vega for recone kits with no luck, any help would be awesome thanks

Hi "thee baron" - I've had numerous speakers redone at The Speaker Doctor in Charlotte, NC.  They did the ones in the Sunn cabs, but before I purchasd them.  They also just did the nearly identical CV 18 from an Acoustic 301 cab that I'm restoring.  Not sure where you're located, but Steve at The Speaker Doctor is the only folks I've ever dealt with.  I've heard a lot of Acoustic guys refer to Orange County Speakers on the west coast pretty often, although I don't have any experience with them.  The Speaker Doctor is about 20-30 mins from me, so that makes it even better.  If you want to look at their web site, it's speakerdoctor.com.
